From hughbarnardlists at yahoo.co.uk Tue Jan 5 06:01:51 2010 From: hughbarnardlists at yahoo.co.uk (hugh barnard) Date: Tue, 5 Jan 2010 06:01:51 +0000 (GMT) Subject: [Mrsdev] Cclite Release 0.7.0 Message-ID: <526650.93051.qm@web24716.mail.ird.yahoo.com> Hi folks Apologies to those that have heard this elsewhere. There's a new version of Cclite on sourceforge: http://sourceforge.net/projects/cclite/ and on my website: http://www.hughbarnard.org/content/alternative-currency-software Here's some of things that are going on: 1. Jquery and jquery based javascript replaces previous javascript, gives a better 'future' too 2. Web control panel + integration for most of the batch scripts, this makes things easier for commodity hosting 3. Manual updated in detail, return to A4 format 4. Simpler install, often, only the Mysql database user and password needs changing 5. Testing done with Selenium on Ubunutu, Fedora virtual host and Cpanel (krystal.co.uk), Windows XP 6. SMS gateway tidied up and tested 7. Explanatory tooltips in many places 8. Database install should both work from application and manually (via phpadmin) 9. About 60 bugfixes (but there shouldn't be 60 bugs, should there...) 10. Batch directories and mail, per registry not per install (gradually getting towards 'better' multiregistry) 11. CARP added in many places to give more web-based explanation on error 12. cpanel specific build added to give a specific tarball. 13. Current template changed to improve readibility at top 14. Ccconfiguration used for configuration, instead of duplicated configuration function 15. lib path hardcoded as relative in all top level scripts 16. Use Net::SMTP and Net::POP3 instead of Mail::Sendmail so that there's client/server for mail transactions etc. Happy New Year, best regards Hugh http://hughbarnard.org From jon at jontheo.com Thu May 13 12:05:42 2010 From: jon at jontheo.com (Jon Theo) Date: Thu, 13 May 2010 12:05:42 +0100 Subject: [Mrsdev] Introduction from LETS group at Transition Town Hackney Message-ID: <004801caf28c$3b9eb340$b2dc19c0$@com> Hi everyone, I've joined this list following a meeting between myself, Michael Linton, Les Moore, Hugh Barnard and Phil Jones. With Michael more in an advisory role, we represent the development team who are currently in the process of building a website to provide a digital LETSystem. We have teamed up with Tony Crooks of LeedsNet, who has already achieved 90% of what we are aiming to do with his site, LETSCommunity. This site uses Hugh's cclite as the transaction engine, and Joomla as the CMS, with Ads Manager, a Joomla plug-in, handling the directory / yellow pages. A developer was brought in to integrate Joomla with cclite, who has since left the project, and Phil and myself are taking up from where she left off. We hope to release both LETSCommunity and TTH LETS in 4 - 6 months time. One of the key features will be SMS payments, so a payment can be made using a text message via an SMS gateway to the server, and, assuming the text passes validation, the accounts are updated and a confirmation text is sent to the recipient. This we hope will enable the rapid take-up of the system as most people now carry an SMS-capable mobile phone. We hope this will encourage small local traders such as market stall holders etc. to start accepting the currency. There are no plans to introduce a paper / hard currency / near-field device / PDA version as yet, and we are still in early stages of development. We will post up our progress and issues etc. and any comments are always welcome. In our discussion with Michael there was much talk about the future of LETS currencies as part of an open network of community currencies. We are some way off having an infrastructure to test some of these ideas as yet, but I think it's probably good to have some discussion on how that might work at a technical level and I'm given to understand this is the place for that! Once we have at least 2 LETS sites up and running we'll begin that discussion in earnest. I notice there's a ccdiscuss list as well but I think maybe we'll just use this one. It's likely ccdiscuss will be deleted soon, because of lack of traffic and econ-lets could be used for non technical development postings instead. The Coventry LETS production system was upgraded to the latest version 1.0 of PyLETS a couple of weeks ago. This also contains API hooks for SMS gateway command input. PyLETS is more stability assured than the related SMS gateway software in the sense of having a full automated testsuite. However, I have manually tested the SMS gateway and am preparing to go live with this within the next few weeks. Those interested in the current SMS gateway software can download it from the PyLETS site: http://copsewood.net/py_lets_cgi/index.html . The SMS gateway commands are also capable of being input by email or responded to by email (zero cost responding using email; our SMS provider charges 5 UK Pence per message response, though we could get this down to 3.5P/response by carrying their advertising). A reason for making the command set dual technology (email+SMS) is to encourage mobile phone users to consider upgrading to email-capable phones when they replace mobiles in order to eliminate response costs. I've just packaged and uploaded the current SMS gateway software, as you may find some ideas in the source code useful, and do please let me have bug reports here if you find any. The SMS gateway is multicurrency, because this will be used by 2 CCs in Coventry supported by the same SMS gateway service, partly to share the 60UKPounds/year cost of the incoming phone number. (PyLETS is designed to be capable of being adaptable to multicurrency without much redesign if more than 1 currency community decide to share application/registration processes i.e. having a single member table. Until then a server can run any likely number of instances of PyLETS, one for each CC.) My analysis suggests that a number of local CCs could share the cost of operating the SMS gateway, though having very many do this would probably complicate the command set, because an extra routing keyword would then have to be added to each command. Mobile phone users who will use both CCs in Coventry will need to put a single letter currency symbol in front of each PAY, BAL or STA command (payment, balance or statement) to indicate the currency context within which they are executing this command. Best wishes, Richard. I didn't put SMS acknowledge in mine because it would use cash each time, but I'm now doing so because people think it's a near-essential feature. Also, it's nice if the whole thing works on a ?10 phone..
